As you can see from the postcard above Albion Nebraska has a long baseball history. The team photo above is dated 1902 and features the team formed to help with the library funding project. Albion Nebraska is a town of more than 2,000 located about 60 miles northwest of Columbus. The current ball diamond is on the north west corner of town. It has a good grass infield and a fair outfield. The field is part of a three field complex. It is the home of the local American Legion team. Former major league player Al Mahon was born in Albion. The Albion Dairiette is a local icon. It started in the 1950's and is located in a former 1930's gas station. The legend is that after the local legion team lost 3 games in a row the owner told the team that if they won he would provide free malts to everyone on the team. And thus a tradition was born. Albion is the Gateway to the Sandhills. Just driving through the town I thought it was a town of about 4-5 thousand as it has a lot of the amenities and facilities of a larger town. Boone Central High School is located in Albion and has a 9-12 population of about 250.	Picture of current ball park goes here.
