Chappell Nebraska is a town of more than 1,000 located about forty minutes west of Ogallala. Buckley Field is the home of the local legion team, the Buckley Bombers.
The field features a well tended grass infield and a sturdy press box that looks like it could double as a tornado shelter. (the grass looks a little brown as the pictures were taken during the winter).
The Chappell legion team was the Class "C" Senior and Class "C" Junior State Champions in 2007.
The field was named after Thomas Buckley, a Garden, Deuel County wheat farmer. He was a bachelor and left a sizeable legacy to the citizens of Chappell and the surrounding communities. Scholarships, grants, remodeling and many endowments are given from the Buckley Trust Fund. The fund primarily uses just the interest from the fund.
Thanks to K. Wendland for providing information about Thomas Buckley
