Fairbury ad 1928

The Nebraska State League was resurrected for its third iteration in 1928. Fairbury was one of the charter members of the league. Lee Fairchild of Kansas City was named manager of the club. Over 100 players tried out for the 15 places on the squad.

Visiting teams liked Fairbury as it had a first run theater called the Bonham. The theater was opened in 1926 and the large screen and first run movies made it an entertainment gem for the area.

Roster:
Walter Gallet played first base and was the leadoff hitter in the lineup. He was named a all star honorable mention.

Chester Titus batted third and was named to the all star second team. He arrived on July 5th and swatted 16 home runs in 76 games. He swung the wagon tongue for a .323 average and also had 13 steals.

Short stop for 1928 was held down by Bryan Young. He was an all star honorable mention.

Catching for the Jeff's in 1928 was Everett Corrick. He was named an all star honorable mention.

Another masked man for the Jeff's in 1928 was Ross

Outfield:
Edward Lass was named to the all star second team. The young man from Chicago played one game for Lincoln before moving to Fairbury. He batted .328 and had 10 home runs.

Steele

Pitchers:
Chester Gants was 15-14 in 37 games. The Abeline Kansas native was in the top ten in games, innings pitched, games started, strikeouts and wins and named to the all star second team.
