The second iteration of the Nebraska State League saw Hastings as one of the charter members. The Hastings Cubs played at Westside Park.
The league went to a split season in 1922. Hastings had a winning record in the first half of the season but fell 10 games short of .500 ball in the second half.
The club regrouped for 1923. The directors of the club made a search for a new manager. Almost every day in March the Hastings Daily Tribune reported on the progress of the search. The search finally ended when Leonard Bennett was named manager of the Cubs. "Cap" Bennett had played and captained a number of teams in the NSL during its 1910-1915 tenure and had managing experience in Quincy in the III league. Hastings Cubs 1923
