Kearney lost a lot of money in 1914 and there was speculation that the team would not be around for opening day in 1915. Left fielder Grover Matney led a campaign to pay off the existing debt. His idea was to sell season tickets for $2.00. Since normal ticket prices were 25 cents for a game it was a deep discount. Local businesses bought the tickets and gave them away as premiums. The program was successful as they sold almost 2,000 of the tickets. Grover was named manager for the 1915 season.
The team paid off its debts and went into the season with $2,000 in the treasury. The problem was that they had no gate as almost everyone had a season ticket. The town also voted to go dry in 1915 so concession sales took a nose dive. By late June they were unable to pay the visiting team guarantee and the team folded.
