The Nebraska State League was restarted in 1956 as a class "D" league owned by Major League Baseball. Lexington was a farm club of the Boston Red Sox. The league scheduled 66 games with the seasons starting after school got out and ending before labor day.
Lexington was one of the two smallest communities in the league. In 1956 the population was around 5,000 and drew over 28,000 fans during its first year. It was a great year for the Red Sox as they finished first with Danny Doyle as manager.
Lexington had a new manager for the 1957 season, Jack Kaiser. Lexington wound up in a tie for second place, only 1/2 game out of first. The town supported the team with over 24,000 fans in the stands for the season.
The 1958 season was the last one for Lexington in the Nebraska State League. Attendance dropped to around 13,000 fans and the league was contracted to six teams for the 1959 season.
