Norfolk was one of the charter members of this incarnation of the league. They sold 20 shares of stock at $100.00 per share to come up with the initial entry fees for the league.
Norfolk was the first club with a manager. They hired J. L. Wilkus to be their manager. He had pitched in the American Association and III League before coming to Norfolk.
6th place 16 ½ out of first.
Roster:
First base was handled by "Cowboy" Smith. The Cincinnati
Ohio native was the top fielder at his position and batted .304 with 8
home runs.
A first team all star Tony H. "Horse 'em Up" Ragno was at second base in 1928. Tony was from San Francisco and averaged .310 for the year.
Short stop was held down by Ivan "Ike" Olk The Cornela Nebraska native was a first team all star and was in the top 10 in steals, doubles and walks. He averaged .304 for the season.
Tucker played third for Norfolk and for York during the season. He averaged .263 for the 1928 year.
Behind the mask for the Elks was Wallis for 54 games. He was second among catchers and averaged .283 for the season.
Mack was behind the plate for 74 games. He averaged .229 and appeared in a total of 102 games.
Outfield:
Felhaber was a regular in the garden for the Elks in
1928. He was the only outfielder to play in more than 100 games for the
Elks in the outfield. He averaged .282 in 121 total games.
Hulata was in the outfield for 76 games and averaged .302.
Another outfielder was Daneson > He was in 47 games and averaged .282.
Skelley was in the outfield for 37 games. He averaged .198.
Pitchers:
Joe Tomsikwas selected as a second team all star.
The Verdigre Nebraska hurler was 14-10 in 32 games and had a 4.13 ERA.
Glen Dacus was 10-11 in 26 games. He had 135 strike outs and 100 walks in 169 innings.
Toft was 11-10 in 29 games. He had 118 k's.
Wilkus was 2-8 in 22 appearances. He had a 3.26 ERA to lead the Elks.
