Ed Cicotte moved from Des Moines to Lincoln for the 1907 year. He had helped Des Moines to a first place finish in 1906 and in 1907 he pitched in 39 games for Lincoln and wound up pitching for the Red Sox in 1908. They traded him to the White Sox where he was one of the eight players involved in the infamous Black Sox scandal.
This was to be the year of the Rourkes. Pa Rourke's Sterlings as the Omaha paper called them rode a late August win streak to take the league pennant. In mid August Des Moines was holding on to first by two games. By the end of August both the Rourkes and the Lincoln Tree Planter moved past them.
Harry Welch tended the garden and batted .311 for Pa's team in 1907.
Jimmy Austin stole 63 bases to lead the league. The hot corner artist, played for the New York Highlanders from 1909-1910, then had a long career with the Browns, playing his last game in 1929 at the age of 49.
Chick Autrey was a port side swinger from Humboldt Tennessee. He was picked up by Cincinnati at the end of the season and played in 7 games for the Reds. He averaged .291 in 151 games.
William Belden averaged .267 in 147 games for Omaha.
Joe Dolan averaged .260 in 1907. He played for the Phillies and the Athletics in the Major Leagues. He played in Omaha in 1902 through 1907.
Buck Franks played short for the Omaha franchise in 1907. He averaged .245 in 138 games. He played for Oakland 8 years and in Omaha for three seasons.
Johnny Gonding was a long term catcher for Omaha. He averaged .214 in 119 games. He first played in Omaha in 1901 and his last year was 1911.
George Graham played second base in 1907. He averaged .264 in 146 games.
Bert King played most of the 1907 season with Shreveport. He played in 13 games for Omaha and averaged .261.
Austin LeBrand was the second catcher for Omaha in 1907. He was in 59 games and averaged .226.
Harris McNeely pitched for Omaha in 1907. He was 22-16 in 1906 but I do not have a record for him in 1907.
Gus Thompson led the league in games pitched in 1907 with 39 appearances. The Humboldt Iowa native had a cup of coffee with the Cardinals in 1906.
Pat Ragan was from Blanchard Iowa. The right handed pitcher made it to the majors in 1909. He had stints in the majors through the 1923 season.
War Sanders was a regular pitcher for Omaha from 1903-1014. He had a cup of coffee with the Cardinals in 1903 and 1904.
