Wichita moved to become the Pueblo Indians May 22. |
The league continued the 168 game schedule in 1911 but most of the teams did not play an entire schedule. Wichita had problems with Sunday laws against baseball and eventually moved to Pueblo where they were able to take advantage of Sunday crowds.
Roster:
Jim Kane played in 171 games. He was third in the league with a .340 average, second in hits with 218 and led the league in stolen bases with 73. He was also among the league leaders in triples with 16. He was originally from Pennsylvania and had played in 55 games for Pittsburg in 1908.
Bert Niehoff was a regular at second and averaged .269. The Louisville Colorado native played five years in the majors from 1913 through 1918.
Pick played at the hot corner in 1911 and averaged .266.
Kneaver was the short stop in 1911 and averaged .233.
William "Bill" Shipke returned to Omaha for the 1911 season. He played in Omaha in 1904 and 1905. He was sold to the Cleveland Naps for 1906. He was sent to Des Moines for the 1906 season then sold to the Washington Senators. He played for the Senators from 1907 through the 1909. In 1911 he played in 42 games and averaged .274. He played/managed for Yankton South Dakota during from 1915 through 1916. He stayed in Omaha after his playing career and he died in Omaha in 1940.
Putting on the tools of ignorance in 1911 was Agnew. He averaged .253 in 70 games. Arbogast played the position for 83 games and averaged .258.
Outfield:
Williams was in 128 games and averaged .303. He also had 10 home runs for the year.
King played in 152 games for Omaha and Topeka and averaged .318
Art Thomason averaged .342 in 163 games. The Liberty Missouri lad played 20 games with Cleveland in 1910.
Pitchers:
Hall pitched in 46 games had 116 walks, 17 losses, 16 hit batters and 190 strikeouts. He had a 17-17 record.
Fentress split his time between York in the Nebraska State League and the Rourkes. For the Rourkes he was 6-8 in 25 appearances.
Ben DeMott was 8-7 in 22 games. He had a cup of coffee with Cleveland in 1910.
Robinson was in 27 games and had a 16-15 record.
Cook was 3-9 in 17 games.
