Jake Kraninger started his professional career with Auburn in the MINK league in 1910. He was from Council Bluffs Iowa and was their regular catcher and averaged .226 for the year.
He returned to Auburn for the 1911 season where he played catcher and some outfield.
In 1912 he averaged .225 for Auburn. He was always among the leaders in the league in fielding.
In 1913 he started with Auburn. With the demise of the league he went to the NSL.
In 1914 he played catcher and in the outfield for Columbus in the NSL.
With the demise of the NSL in 1915, Jake started playing semi-pro ball for various teams in the state. In 1922 he was listed as the catcher for the Franklin town team and in 1924 he played for Cambridge. He owned a restaurant in Cambridge. He also played in 20 games for Grand Island in the Tri-State League in 1924.
In September of 1930, he was involved in a hunting accident where he lost the use of most of one hand.
