Roy Luebbe was born in Parkersburg Iowa in 1900. He was playing sandlot baseball in Omaha when he was noticed by Barney Burch, owner of the Omaha Western League team. He was signed to a contract and played briefly with Omaha during the 1921 season.

He was sent by Barney to Waterloo in the Mississippi Valley League in 1922 to get more seasoning. He then played for Scranton and finally was placed in Grand Island in the Nebraska State League.

In 1923 he played in played 63 games for Grand Island. He barely made the Mendoza line with a .200 average. He was given a trial at the end of the season with the Phillies, but was returned to Grand Island for the 1924 season.

With the demise of the TriState League in July, Roy found him back in Omaha as Barney still owned his contract. According to the Sporting News, Barney tried to sell Roy and another player to St. Joe's in exchange for an airplane. The deal fell through. Roy responded by hitting .370 with Omaha.

Barney sold Roy to the New York Yankees towards the end of the 1925 season. Roy made his major league debut on August 6th, 1925. The catcher played in 8 major league games, and was hitless in 15 at bats.

He played for the Ashville Tourists in the South Atlantic League in 1927 and 1928. In 1928 he played in 114 games and the switch hitting catcher batted .290.

In 1929 he was with Charlotte and Waco. In 1930 he was back with Charlotte. He then went to Ashville in the Piedmont League in 1931. He also played in 13 games with Omaha that year averaging .333. He was back in the Piedmont League for the 1932 season.

He died in Papillion Nebraska in 1985.
