1910
Seward was one of the charter members of the Nebraska State League in 1910.
The league was a class "D" league with a salary limit of $900.00 and a player limit
of 12 after May 28th.
May 14, 1910, opening day in Seward was cold and windy but
that did not deter the crowd of almost 600 baseball fans. Ceremonies included a speech
by mayor Merriam and the college band played
as entertainment.
Seward hosted Red Cloud and won by a score of 7 to 6. The Seward Independent Demorat called the
team the "White Sox" while other baseball historians have called them the "Statesmen".
At the end of the first game the manager a man named John Fink was
released and Clint Neff was
named manager of the team.
in June, the Seward team played before 1,200 fans on the day of the Woodman picnic and
defeated Red Cloud by a score of 4 to 1.
For the year they wound up 50 and 62, 16 games behind the league leader Fremont.
The team was third in the league in batting with a .234 average and first
in fielding.
While lineups for the teams changed frequently there will be an attempt to list the people
who played a majority of the games for a particular team. Many papers used only last names
and the Seward paper did not include any box scores. The list below comes from the text of various
games and box scores from other newspapers.
Clint Neff was a fixture in the Nebraska State League. In 1910 he was the manager of the Seward team. He played in whatever postion the team needed; outfield, first base and catcher. He led the Seward franchise in batting and was fourth in the league with a .312 average in 93 games.

He averaged .254 for the Statesmen/WhiteSox. Nine other players played a few games for Seward during the year.

Other pitchers included Harrington who was 11-12, Walker who managed a 9-12 record and Hanson who was 8-12 for the year.
