Columbus was one of the charter members of the Nebraska State League in 1910. The Columbus franchise started fast and contended for the 1910 championship through the year. They finished the year in second place behind the Fremont Pathfinders.
In 1911 they started with great fan support as over 1,000 fans were in the stands for their opening home game. The club did not live up to expectations and they fell to fifth place, in a tie with Grand Island.
A fourth place finish in 1912 was followed by a sixth place in 1913 and next to last in 1914. The franchise was one of the first two to fold in 1915. They only played 15 games in 1915 before dropping out of the league. The league died a month later.
Columbus in 1910 was a town of about 5,000 people. According to the Lincoln Highway guide of 1915 Columbus had a population of about 6,000 in 1915 while census figures put the population at 5,400 for 1915. A room at the Evans Hotel cost $2.00 per night and the town boasted 5 public schools and 200 automobiles owned in 1915. The local speed limit was 10 mph while gas ran 16 cents a gallon.
