The Lincoln Western League franchise moved to Pueblo after the 1927 season. The lack of attendance and miserable record of the Links led to their demise. For 1928 a new franchise in the reincarnated Nebraska State League was formed.

Lincoln was one of the eight teams in the league in 1928. They came in second in 1928. In 1933 the league contracted to four teams and Lincoln still came in fourth. They won the four team league in 1934. In 1936 the team folded under their accumulated debt. There was no minor league baseball in Lincoln in 1937. In 1938 the Links returned to the Nebraska State League with a working agreement with the St. Louis Browns. In 1939 they moved to the class "D" Western League as the class "A" league folded. They were in that league for one year. From 1940 to the end of World War II Lincoln hosted no team. After the war Lincoln once again joined the class "A" Western League as it reformed in 1947.
